Adamson University commenced this year’s celebration of Paskong Adamsonian 2021 with the theme “All Out: Unleash the True Adamsonian Spirit” held online via Zoom and live-streamed through Facebook, participated by at least 300 students, on December 3.
According to Paolo Binasbas, Adamson University Student Government (AUSG) Vice President for External Affairs, who was also the head of the committee for the celebration , the event was aimed to show the freshmen how the university celebrates Paskong Adamsonian.
“I came up with this theme dahil alam kong kailangang ipakita sa mga freshmen kung paano mag-celebrate ng Paskong Adamsonian. Marami pa ang ‘di pa nakakabalik or nakakapasok sa Adamson so heto na ‘yung time para ipakilala yung mga RSOs at AUSG na nandito kami para sa kanila,” he said.
Binasbas added that they pushed through witht the event this year because there was no Paskong Adamsonian celebration in the previous school year.
“Last year, walang naganap na Paskong Adamsonian dahil nag-aadjust pa ang lahat kung paano ‘yung online setup. We tried to push this [year] kasi alam kong namimiss na ng mga Klasmeyts natin ‘yung Paskong Adamsonian at lalo na at graduating na rin ang karamihan sa mga executive officers,” Binasbas stated.
Aside from the event being conducted online, Silip at Lente AdU President TJ Pader Dangarang, who was also the head of production for Paskong Adamsonian 2021, said that the atmosphere of the event is different from the face-to-face interactions.
“Ang pinakaiba ay ‘yung vibe na meron kapag face-to-face. ‘Yung nakakausap mo ‘yung artist, nakikita mo si Klasmeyt na excited sa mga guest artist, nakikita mo na tumatawa sila, nakikita mo ‘yung tao behind the event kasi nandoon sila sa stage,” he shared.
Despite the success of the event, Binasbas admitted that they faced challenges while planning for this event.
“Ang daming challenges dahil September pa lang nagsi-start na kaming mag-draft ng plan at maghanap ng mga sponsors. Siyempre there's a lot of things rin sa AUSG na kailangan ding i-address such as Call for Wellness Break pero kailangang magmove forward para walang nacocompromise na timeline,” he said.
Nevertheless, Dangarang shared that the event exceeded his expectations despite the current setup.
“Kapag virtual event iisipin mo na agad na boring kasi iba pa rin talaga yung tinatak sa utak natin nung mga (face-to-face) events…pero ngayon it exceeded my expectations kasi nafeel ko ‘yung vibe ng mga Klasmeyts natin” He stated.
He added that he felt glad about the interactions and cooperation shown by the students and the event committee.
“Alam kong gigil na gigil silang mag-open ng mic para marinig ‘yung mga boses nila para suportahan mga Klasmeyts nila and nakakatuwa lang kasi hindi sila nabobored. Mayroong interactions ‘yung mga audience sa mga artist, mga host, mga games,” Dangarang said.
Students’ feedback
On the other hand, students who attended the Paskong Adamsonian 2021 shared their experience. According to Rezel Hubiera of AMC102, she felt like she was watching the performances live.
“I was ecstatic when they revealed that Zack Tabudlo and Lola Amour would be performing. Even though I'm watching the event on a screen, it feels like I'm attending a live performance… I can say that the event's management, or the organizers, did an excellent job of making the event possible. The event was very well-managed by the hosts,” she said.
Yuri Castor of AMC102 added that she did not feel the awkward atmosphere despite the online setting.
“It was fun. Sobrang exciting and ‘di ko nafeel yung awkward ng atmosphere kase lahat ng students ay nagkakasundo even though we are executing the event virtually…sana face-to-face na.”
For Angeline Garcia of AMC 201, she wished there were more than two guests, but she still enjoyed the show.
“I had so much fun, but I got to admit that it was kind of bitin because there were only two guests. But the sets were very solid, and the audiences were all hyped up kaya the ecstatic mood remained all throughout the event, both Zoom or FB Live,” she shared.
Furthermore, students from different courses also shared their experience from the event. Godwin John Bautista of CE203 said that he was looking forward to the event despite not experiencing the face-to-face setup.
“Hinintay ko talaga ‘tong event na ito lalo na noong nalaman ko kung sino ‘yung mga guest performers. Medyo nakakapanghinayang lang kasi masaya sana kung sa face-to-face namin sila napanood pero overall naenjoy ko naman,” He said.
John Andrew See of GEO 401, who experienced past Paskong Adamsonian celebrations on a physical setup, stated that this event exceeded his expectations despite being conducted online.
“The event was organized well, from the registration up until the last minute of the event. It was so much fun listening to some good music with my fellow Klasmeyts and also from the artists who performed that day,” he said.
