Wellness break rejection spark criticisms from COMM students

Communications students of Adamson University expressed their dismay after the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs denied the Adamson University Student Government (AUSG) and Recognized Student Organization (RSO) call for a wellness break for the third time on November 16.

Sophia Juan of AMC 201 said that the school administration should hear the concerns of the students especially since there are a lot of working students in our current setup.

Sana marinig at pansinin naman ng school heads ‘yung concerns natin kasi tayo yung sobrang naaapektuhan. There are a lot of working students sa AdU and isa rin sila sa factors kung bakit dapat i-consider na mabigyan tayo ng wellness break,” she said.

Juan added that even a few days’ break would help the students rest from the academic responsibilities.

“We are exhausted sa academic works and by just letting us breathe and rest without having to worry about acads kahit three days lang will be very much appreciated,” she said.

Aaron Sabile of AMC 101 felt the same concern towards working students and mentioned that a few days’ break would not affect the campus.

“I think three to four days of a break won’t do any harm for the campus. It would be a great help to all, especially students who are working for a living. Adamson University should implement wellness breaks for students to regulate their mental stability,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Vicky Naval of AMC 301 says that she felt sad about the news as this was not the first time this happened.

Nakaka-sad na for the (third) time, denied na naman ‘yung request natin for academic break. Last year kasi nag ask na tayo for it tapos ‘di tayo napagbigyan tapos naulit ulit ngayon, parang ‘di nila pinapakinggan ‘yung students,” she said.

The AUSG, together with the other organizations, conducted a meeting last November 11 aiming to call and plan for a wellness break after the Midterm Exam and submitted the letter of request the following day.

Despite the rejection, the AUSG and RSOs said that they will still continue the fight for a wellness break for the students.

“We won't stop fighting for this call and ask the University to be more compassionate and open minded with our situation,” AUSG on their Facebook post.
