CREACOMMS holds first academic event for S.Y. 2021-2022

As Communication students slowly work their way inside the media industry by taking the said undergraduate degree, the Creative Communicators Society of Adamson University (CREACOMMS) conducted an event entitled ‘Finding Purpose: The Love for Printed Words’ that aims to share a glimpse of what it really takes to be in the writing industry, both skills-wise and character-wise, on December 4 via Zoom.

According to CREACOMMS, they pushed the project intending to benefit the students, especially those aspiring writers who want to enter the media industry, to get an idea of what actually happens in the field. CREACOMMS invited Komunikator’s Adviser Argyll Geducos to be the keynote speaker of the said event, where he spoke about his journey as a writer, both in his college days and as a professional, and he also left notes to remember for future media practitioners.

President for CREACOMMS Nitz Tan, shared that this event was a learning experience for her.

“We think of this event as a learning curve, not just because of what we learned from the speaker, but also because of what happened behind the scenes,” she stated.

Tan recounted the times where they were preparing for the webinar in which she said that it was hectic due to other deadlines.

“It felt three times more intense because we were all busy with academics, and that we had to balance everything out,” she said.

Additionally, she stated that one of the greatest lessons the attendees can learn from the event was when Mr. Argyll Geducos, speaker of the event, said that “attitude matters above anything else.”

Moreover, CREACOMMS Environmental Director Sunday Julaton, and one of the hosts, gave his reaction to the overall event.

“A lot of rough patches here and there, and also didn’t get a lot of participants as I hoped but what matters is that we made it to the end and we pulled through without everything falling apart,” he said.

He also mentioned how the discussion about “degree vs. skills” was the most impactful as he was able to relate himself as an irregular student who wants to seek a part-time job without a degree yet, but knowing that he has “the skills to do great things in the field of writing.”

Julaton also shared his takeaway at the end of the talk in which he mentioned that passion is a big factor in achieving your goals.

“I guess that for me [passion] is what pulls you through in the end, because if you really have the passion for something, then a degree and skills will come after it.” Julaton shared. He added that the talk inspired him to improve more as a student.

“It inspired me to work harder as a student because now I know that the secret to writing something good is to put a little bit of myself on the paper,” he stated.
