Momentum Reversal: Adamson's devastating loss against UST

The Adamson Lady Falcons were defeated by the UST Lady Tigresses on a crucial fifth set 12-25, 25-19, 25-22, 18-25, 15-9 in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 84 women's volleyball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena on Tuesday, May 17, 2022.


All 15 points of the Lady Falcons came from attacks headed by open hitter Trisha Genesis. Lucille Almonte and Rizza Cruz both scored 10 points in the game.


Tigresses got off to a rough start in the match, falling by as many as 13 points in the first set before winning the next two to take a 2-1 advantage. However, Adamson fought back, gaining a nine-point advantage late in the fourth quarter to force a decisive game.


Adamson jumped out to a 12-6 lead in Set 4 and never looked back, with Aliah Marce giving the Lady Falcons a boost off the bench to force a thrilling fifth set.


Two service aces from the rookie Ypril Tapia and a big block on Adamson's Kate Santiago helped the Tigresses take a dominating 7-2 lead in the final.


The playmaker Louie Romero maximized Rizza Cruz's presence in front of the net for the Lady Falcons. Lorene Toring's service error allowed the Tigresses to take a one-point lead, 7-6, after May Ann Nuique's hit.


Imee Hernandez scored on a shot from the middle, keeping the Lady Falcons within one point, 9-8. The Tigresses responded with a 6-1 closing kick after a miscommunication between Romero and Lolongsip, with Laure scoring the game-winning point on an off-the-block attack.


With a game-winning shot in the final seconds, Laure finished with a game-high 23 points on 19 hits and four blocks. Ypril Tapia and Ysa Jimenez came off the bench and contributed eight points each.
