AdU spoils UE, notches first season-win

The Adamson Soaring Falcons bounced back after two straight losses, besting the University of the East Red Warriors, 74-61, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, October 8, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 85.


Joem Sabandal and Jerom Lastimosa partnered to secure their breakthrough win of the season. Sabandal, the star of the game, pitched in 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, while veteran point guard, Lastimosa, furnished 11 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds in 24 minutes.


Adamson got out of a scorching start as Cedrick Manzano guaranteed the team a 23-9 lead by beating the buzzer at the end of the first quarter. The Soaring Falcons kept their momentum to hold a 38 - 31 advantage at halftime.


However, the Soaring Falcons were put in danger by a second-half comeback attempt by the Red Warriors, succeeding in a close call at the end of the third quarter, 49 - 45, similar to their previous match against the UP Fighting Maroons.


AdU carried on to exhaust Calvin Payawal and Luis Villegas delivering for UE. They managed an 11-3 fourth-quarter start to lock in a 13-point lead, 61-48, in the remaining 6:34, enough to conquer UE, who slumped to a 1-2 record.


“It feels good to win. That’s something that all teams look forward to at the start of each tournament. Hopefully, we could follow it up. That’s the goal,” said Adamson head coach Nash Racela.


Catch the Adamson Falcons soar again in another quadruple header on Wednesday, October 12, as they face the FEU Tamaraws at 6:30 PM.
