AdU Lady Falcons demolish UE Lady Warriors in straight sets to end the first round

Adamson University (AdU) scores a snapback victory against the hapless University of the East (UE), 25-23, 25-20, 25-18, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 84 Women's Volleyball on May 19, Thursday, at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

This win over the UE drove the Lady Falcons to a 4-3 record in Round 1 of the eliminations and kept its Final Four hopes alive.

Lorene Toring delivered 14 points, 10 attacks, and four blocks, ensuring her contribution to the team as compensation for the loss to the Golden Tigresses last Tuesday.

Both teams' first set was off to a polished start as the Lady Falcons and Lady Warriors rallied in a close-fight scoring. Trishia Mae Genesis drew first blood with her hard-driven spike on the first frame. Lucille Almonte’s drop ball worked as the game entered the first technical timeout leading by one, 8-7.

The UE Lady Warriors got the lead back after a service ace of Janeca Lana, 19-20. But the Lady Falcons recovered from that short-fall score, 19-22, in the first frame with a 6-2 blast. The first period went to AdU after Toring's quick kill, 25-23.

In the second set, Lady Falcons May Ann Nuique, a top-scored player of the game who unleashed 15 points, and Toring rallied two back-to-back points, getting another advantage lead, 25-20.

After tallying three unforced errors in the midway of the next frame, the intensity of the Lady Falcons continued to rage on to gain a four-point advantage in the early flows of the third set as the Lady Falcons seized a 6-7, and the game entered a technical timeout.

The San Marcelino-based ladies untied a 9-1 spurt, all the means to a 25-18 score for the win securing the spot in the Final Four for the first round. Adamson’s Rizza Cruz also chipped in 10 points for the team, next to the open hitter Genesis with 9 points.

The Lady Falcons will try to repay their loss against the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses for the opening day of Round 2 next Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena, May 26, 2022.

The complete list of games for the elimination round will be announced further on One Sports and the UAAP Varsity Channel.
