Adamson University held its annual Falcon Run 9, a sports and fund-raising event to support the scholars last February 16, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex (CCP).
Armed with their race kits, students from all over Metro Manila flocked at the venue before the 4:00 a.m. call time. They were then treated to a morning Zumba session before the sun rose.
The event is comprised of numbered and colored bibs to indicate the type of runner they were, ranging from Senior High School (SHS) students to enthusiastic guests supporting the cause, and the distance they dedicated themselves in running either three or five kilometers (km).
The prizes for the winners for all categories are as follows:
(Categories are split in Male & Female)
College 5k
SHS 3k
BED 3k
Alumni/Parents/Guests 5k
Faculty/Admin/Employee 3k
Faculty/Admin/Employee 5k
First place — Gold medal and 4,000 PHP
Second place — Silver medal and 3,000 PHP
Third place — Bronze medal and 2,000 PHP
Numerous Student Assistants (SA) helped coordinate and supervise to keep the event running smoothly. By 6:00 a.m., well after their warm up, the first runners organized were the SHS students running for the 3K, followed by the faculty, administrators, employees, parents, alumni, and lastly, college students. The runners for the 5K distance followed 15 minutes later.
The run lasted for a good 90 minutes, with the last of runners coming in and greeted by the performances of the Adamson University Drummers Yellers On-line (AUDYO) and the Adamson Pep Squad. The awarding ceremony took place after.
To third-placer College student John Tubian, finishing the race is more important than anything else.
“Well, everyone had fun. I didn’t mind the prize more than finishing the race. What makes you feel good is that you actually believe you'll get there. So I'm proud of that for myself.”
