When Tomorrow Comes

Updated: Jul 22, 2021

This overdue quarantine and lockdown have been really challenging for everyone. It made us feel like we’re living in a loop—same day, everyday.

Gone are the days when our friends will tell us that we’ll meet up after the pandemic, because it feels like this will not end anytime soon. To be completely honest, this new normal setup is very suffocating and I find it hard to accept that this will be our reality for the next days to come.

In times of doubt, hope is something that could keep us together. True enough, a glimmer of hope jumped in when pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca have developed different versions of the vaccine. The World Health Organization (WHO) issued its first emergency use validation for a COVID-19 vaccine last December 2020, and some countries have already started rolling it out since then.

Now, for the real question, when will the vaccination take place in our country? Once again, the Philippines seems to be lagging behind after all the “assurance” they told us that we’ll immediately acquire the vaccine once it becomes available. If only we didn’t solely rely on it to end this nightmare in our country, then maybe we wouldn’t be stuck in this horrific situation.

At the moment, we need to hold on and have faith with the vaccine as soon as it reaches our country. Yes, going back to normal will not happen instantly even when the vaccine comes, but we have to believe in something to keep us sane during this time. We have to believe that this can’t be all that life is. We have to survive today, and believe that a better tomorrow will come.
