A blanket of safety and free space for emotional expression covered all of the students who were present in the Communication Department’s CREACOMMS seminar, “SEEN: Strengthening Efficiency and Effectiveness in the New Normal,” which took place last November 28.
Aimed to provide advice to students to fully enhance their productivity in the new normal setting all while practicing self-care, the event featured two speakers from qualified professional fields.
The first speaker of the affair was Ms. Jeah Austria, a brand strategist and a professor on Time Management courses, who gave tips to students on how they can keep track of their activities during this time, when they are stuck at home with limitless distractions all around them.
She said when it comes to managing schedules, self-awareness is the key. She encouraged them to identify what is important and what should be prioritized.
At the end of her presentation, she reminded the attendees that the time spent doing something enjoyable isn’t time wasted— a great reminder to not buckle under time pressure.
The second half of the event was headed by Adamson University Psychology professor Mr. Randolfh Nerona, who taught the students the art and mechanics of self-care. He gave the attendees an idea on activities that they can do in order to handle stress and improve work performance with the introduction of the 3S’s— a self-care paradigm that stands for self-discipline, self-compassion, and self and others (socialization).
He left the students with a reminder to celebrate the small wins in their academic and personal life and that when it comes to stressors and problems, no one is ever alone.
“What is important is you try,” he said.
The occasion was hosted by Irish Apolinario and Jezra Gagua, who did not fail to energize and keep the attendees entertained in between segments by holding games and icebreakers. The Communication students’ G-Circle also performed an entertaining rendition of the popular children’s song, “Otso Otso”, and a cover of the lively hit, “Can’t Stop the Feeling”.
The affair concluded with the inspiring closing remarks of the department chairperson, Ms. Ailene Ayson, advising students to repel the negative energies that they may encounter.
“You cannot please anyone no matter how hard you try. If you know that it’s not worth your time, don’t mind them,” she said.
