Freshmen and transferees were welcomed with warm, open arms at Marahuyo 2021.
Different from well-known school rituals such as eating at Zobel street, running through the halls of the university walkway and being around their friends, the new breed of Falcons get to experience a whole new way of being embraced by the Adamson community.
The event was organized and executed by the Adamson University Student Government (AUSG) from January 27 to 29 , held via Zoom and Facebook live.
It followed the usual format of the university-wide celebrated event, with the student membership drives for various organizations in the university and orientation of the new Adamsonians being the focus.
CONCERT AT HOME. Filipino Indie Pop Rock band "This Band" rocks the Marahuyo 2021 'virtual' stage as they perform their hits on the event's highlight—the Welcome Week concert.
To make up for the event being done virtually, this year’s Tatak Adamson had a different twist, where instead of receiving a handprint at the back of their shirts, students were instead given free shirts. It also featured a virtual concert where OPM and fellow klasmeyt performers rocked out with students, a signature custom of previous welcome week events.
A short film competition was also held with the theme “Quarantine” and was judged by highly esteemed filmmakers in the university. It also held a poster-making and photo contest, as well as an amusing TikTok duet challenge, which showcased the contestant’s creativity despite being at home. Winners were Aaron Agtay's "Sisibol", for the short film competition, Paul Octaviano for the poster-making contest, and Mary Grace Maryate for the photo contest.
When asked about his Marahuyo experience, klasmeyt CJ Galang from the Communication department said, “I feel very welcome especially sa mga seniors ko po (by my seniors). They are unexpectedly approachable and I can feel that they treat me in a fair manner. I can feel that I am a part of the Adamsonian Community and [I’m] proud of it.”
The three-day event officially ended with a heartwarming message from the AUSG officials, wishing for newly inoculated students to feel the complete “new Falcon experience”.
“We wanted our freshmen students to enjoy and feel our university's tradition, even though the three-day-long celebration will be done virtually, especially in these trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic. And so far, thankfully, with the help of Recognized Student Organizations, AUSG Representatives, Office for Student Affairs, and the Falcon Radio Station hosts, we were able to provide satisfaction for our fellow freshies,” AUSG President Wilmer Baliwag stated in an interview.
Despite being held virtually, the organizers of the event were still able to retain the spirit of the annual occasion. Of course, the thrilling feeling of physically being at a welcome concert will always be a part of the Adamsonian experience and senior students can only hope their juniors will be able to experience this as well.
However for now, in their own special way, new students got to feel welcomed and were officially introduced to the Adamson community as klasmeyts.
