Adamson University is known as the home of Soaring Falcons. But, it is also a shelter for the growing population of 80 stray cats who have found a new family—now, we call them the AdUCats.
Initially, AdUCats was founded by Engr. Ericson Roque in March 2019. The concept of building a small community for the cats was inspired by De La Salle Univerity’s DLSU-PUSA to control the outgrowing number of stray cats around the campus by having them fed, sheltered, and neutered.
Being apart from who they consider a family, they surely miss our Klasmeyts’ presence. But before the resumption of physical classes in all programs, let us get to know some of the favorite cat-mates we might encounter inside the campus.
First is Gingy of SV building, the ginger-haired cat with rounded chinky yellow eyes. Just like every typical orange cat, he is extremely playful and makulit—don’t worry though, because he is a good boy.
Eartha, the motherly cat whom Gingy dearly loves. Even though she is not his biological mom, Gingy just loves to cling to her like a toddler who can’t get his mother out of his sight. Indeed, Eartha is a sweet cat who radiates nothing but warmth. She also takes care of the volunteers by giving them free hugs.
Penelope, who is a one-eyed blind cat, and Vida, who can’t completely see, are just as adorable as the first two. Despite their conditions, they also receive equal love and care with their undeniably irresistible charms.
If you see a handsome gray-striped cat guarding the CS gate, that is probably Suga—known as the cat that blesses you when you extend your hand. Aside from the CS gate, he can also be seen in front of the Garden Café, claiming it as his personal sleeping area.
Another cat from the CS gang, Butler, is Suga’s best bud. He is a chubby white cat with some cute black spots who always got his friend’s back, protecting their territory from the intruders.
Then there’s Kibol, having sleek white and gray fur, and another ginger cat Singkit—the residents of ST and OZ building who will welcome you once you stop by their colony.
Most of the AdUCats are friendly and love to mingle, although some of them are aloof and scared of people.
However, it is all a matter of patience for every cat person because nothing’s more satisfying than earning a shy kitty’s trust.
If you want to hang around with our furry friends, they can usually be seen at the gates, gardens, open spaces, and grounds of AdU; they all have been waiting for your visit.
Well, they can’t wait to see you so we’ll see you around the campus, cat-mates!
