eXperiencing the COMM-unity Bond

Despite some limitations brought by the quarantine, the Adamson University Communication Department made the COMM-unity feel welcomed and right at home at this year's General Assembly last October 24, made possible via a Zoom conference.

With the theme “eXperience,” the assembly also celebrated the 10th year since the Communication Department’s establishment, thus the capitalized X.

True to its title, the attendees of the event were able to fully experience a fun and well-thought-out event through the safety of their screens as evidently, the organizers strived to make the assembly an experience as close to the ones students were used to and have had before at the university’s theaters.

BREAKING THE ICE. Hosts TJ Dangarang and Kaye Reyes facilitates the "I Can Say Your Voice" ice breaker to encourage active participation of the COMM-unity.

The three-hour event was preceded by a virtual mass led by the university’s parish and officially started with the opening remarks of the Dean of College of Liberal Arts, Dr. Gliceria A. Lunag.

In her speech, she encouraged the students to embrace the difficulties of these challenging times by embracing the grace of God and to recognize the efforts and opportunities the university has provided to students at home. She also encouraged the students to be the model of proper communication, noting the importance of good-flowing dialogue.

The Dean also left a heartfelt reminder to embrace the new normal to the students saying, “This pandemic is always an opportunity to become better than who we are.”, leaving the students with a warm and inspiring impression.

Department Chairperson Ms. Ailene Ayson discussed the policies of the department in regard to online learning and addressed frequently asked questions by the students.

She likewise welcomed new and freshmen Communication students to the COMM-unity by reminding the students to reach out to her whenever needed, bringing the nostalgic “The Comm Dept is always open” door sign of the faculty office to mind.

Of course, a general assembly held for Communication students would not be complete without a performance by members of the Glee Circle with the G-Singers performing a medley of mellow and soothing OPM songs.

The G-Queens debuted a music video-inspired performance with Taylor Swift’s 2014 hit “Bad Blood”, while donning inspired costumes and props akin to the ones in the music video, which even behind a computer screen, surely brought fellow Klasmeyts to their feet, cheering for the group.

Energetic and pleasant hosts, TJ Dangarang and Kaye Reyes praised the performances. “Kahit saan mo dalhin ang mga Comm students, magpe-perform at magpe-perform talaga ang mga ‘yan,” klasmeyt Kaye said.

The event also honored the achievement of Malaya Productions, whose short film “The Lost Sitty” bagged a place in the top eight student entries of the 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival Short Film Competition.

Student awardees were also commended with klasmeyts Kyle J. Tagle and Christyn G. Badillo ranking 1st among first years and Jenica M. Villanueva ranking 1st for the second year level.

Department professors and CREACOMMS’ ad hocs such as the Komunikator, the department’s publication; the Glee Circle, its performance unit; and the Falcon Radio Station were also introduced, encouraging fellow klasmeyts to join and expand their organization’s family.

Although this school year’s General Assembly was unconventional and far from the assemblies the Communication students have had before, it still achieved what it set out to do— to bring the COMM-Unity together and eXperience the bond between the members and students of the department during these challenging times, whether it’s in the halls of the university’s theater or behind a computer screen.
