CREACOMMS hold an online benefit concert for the elderly

Creative Communicators Society of Adamson University (CREACOMMS) launched this year’s outreach online concert with the theme “Harana Para kay Lolo’t Lola: A benefit concert for the Anawim Home for the Elderly” held via Zoom on April 2.

According to Jel Bongalos, the Outreach Director of CREACOMMS, the event's main objective is to seek support for the elderly while also showcasing the talents of the COMMunity.

“Harana para kay Lolo't Lola aims to raise funds for our abandoned elderly while featuring the exceptional ability of the COMMunity. The proceeds will help the facility’s daily operational expenses (food and nutritional supplements, medical expenses, adult diapers, etc.) as we all know naman na isa ang home for the aged sa mga vulnerable communities in this time of pandemic,'' she said.

Regardless of the challenges they faced, Bongalos still called the event a success as they raised an ample amount of money for the donation.

“I think we can call it a success na rin talaga. After na-move ng ilang beses, tech difficulties, abutin ng 1 a.m. para sa dry run. Nakapagraise tayo ng (quite) a huge amount for Anawim (I think we can call it a success. After being moved a few times, technical difficulties, and a dry run that lasts until1 a.m. We were able to raise [quite] a considerable amount for Anawim).” she added.

Meanwhile, Yuri Castor of AMC 102 said she was not surprised that the event would turn out great because she knew it was well-organized.

“From the very start I know that the organizers really did their best kasi pinaghandaan talaga, from guests palang, hanggang sa mga singers and sa lahat (because they were really prepared, from guests to the singers and everything),” she said.

Castor added that the most satisfying part of the event for her, was when she shared her story through the open letter, as she also wished to give inspiration to the LGBTQ+ community.

“Noong na-share ko yung journey namin ng partner ko despite of problems na naranasan namin after nung event mas nafeel ko pang open ako, like totally open, towards my gender (When I shared my romantic relationship journey despite the problems we experienced after the event, I felt even more open, like totally open, towards my gender),” she said

“Kumbaga ang laking ginhawa na hindi lang sa friends and family naka pag out, pati na sa school, and naging inspiration rin sa ibang LGBTQ people (It seems that it was such a great relief to be able to come out not just to my friends and family, but also to the school and to be an inspiration to other LGBTQ people),” she added.

Glen Papillerin and Riza Pendijito of Creacomms, the hosts of the event, read seven anonymous open letters submitted by Adamsonians. This was followed by a song performance from various students that were connected to the message of the letter.

The event's highlight was the guest performers: Internet sensation Kween Yasmin, Vloggers Jemay and Ana, Youtuber Mark Reyes, and TikTok influencer Ivan.
