Communication students under different Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) of Adamson University exhibited their talents throughout the Office for Student Affairs Student Organization Activation and Recruitment (AdU SOAR) event, held at Adamson University ST Quadrangle from Oct. 4-7.
According to Mr. Allan Ballos, OSA coordinator, different organizations entertained the crowd by presenting their booths and performing dances, acting, and singing on stage.
"Student leaders… showcase the talents they've got in the opening ceremony this morning to inspire and attract their co-students and make them agree to join the organizations," Ballos said in his Facebook post.
Angelica Marie Sanchez of AMC 301 and a junior photographer fromSilip@Lente, felt surreal and relieved to be at a face-to-face event as she danced on stage with her organization.
"It is surreal that we held the first-ever AdU-SOAR after the pandemic… We are able to showcase what we can do… which is a good thing kasi (because) we weren't able to do that online," she said.
Additionally, Sanchez believes that the event inspired her to work harder while enjoying college life with her chosen organizations.
"This helped me be inspired even more in doing what I do and enjoying my college life through organizations," she said.
For one of the singers of Gravity Skills, Expertise, and Talents (GSET), Mikaela Alliah Manalo of AMC 201, took the courage and snatched the chance to cover “Di Na Muli” by Janine Teñoso on stage.
“At first may kaba (there's nervousness) and excited at the same time, kasi after how many months, first-time ko na lang ulit (because after how many months, it was my first time again)… So I grab the opportunity… to share my talent through singing,” she said.
While performing live, Manalo felt joy hearing the cheerful crowd, which also boosted her confidence.
“Ang saya na habang kumakanta ako, naririnig ko ang sigawan ng mga klasmeyts, which is nakadagdag sa confidence ko, and masasabi kong it was success,” she said.
(It was fun in a way that while I was singing, I could hear the cheers of my classmates, which added to my confidence, and I can say it was a success)
Meanwhile, Jehu Adolfo of AMC 201 and the creative director of Tinik Ng Teatro, experienced mixed feelings after his dance and act performances at the event.
“Going through soar, I have felt mixed emotions throughout the event. It was tiring but also fun. It was tiring with all the preparation,” he said.
Adolfo stated that he was confident with their performances and efforts to boost their organization’s membership drive.
“I personally believe that our performance was a success ... I also believe that some people are entertained and enjoyed the performances that we presented,” he said.
Nicole Domingo of AMC 102 and a junior screenwriter of Silip@Lente, shared that she felt exhausted yet enjoyed the experience.
“...Even if it was tiring, I had lots of fun interacting with other organizations, klasmeyts, and fellow org mates (classmates, and fellow colleagues),” she said.
According to Adrian Lignes, a third-year B.A Political Science student and one of the event hosts, the event’s priority was all co-academic and socio-civic organizations.
"This event is the way… specifically the co-academic and socio-civic organizations, to attract or encourage potential members and to boost their funds for this academic year," he said.
Lignes also noted that the event was an institutional AdU event headed by the AdU-OSA, with the presence of 19 socio-civic and co-academic RSOs.
Students’ Feedback
On the other hand, some students from various college departments rated and shared their remarkable experiences during the event.
Meanwhile, Emille Caigas of AMC 201 shared that she is looking forward to being an official member of the HIMIG Musicians of Adamson as she expressed her love for music.
“The organization I got interested [in] is the HIMIG because of my love for singing & music, so I tried to join the group, and hopefully, I would be granted as a part of them,” she said.
Caigasrated her experience as “one million over 10” for the event helped her to take the first step to pursue her goal.
"Overall, I would give it a one million over ten hehe because… it helps me to find my passion & courage to join in as my experience journey towards my whole university life," she said.
For Jade Margaret Grajo of FM 101, the AdU SOAR let her explore different organizations the university offers— making it a remarkable experience.
"AdU-SOAR has truly been a remarkable experience for me… The four-day activity allowed me to view and inquire about the various organizations… I should join," she said.
Grajo grabbed the opportunity to join four organizations, including the organization related to her degree, which was the Junior Financial Executives (JFINEX)
Meanwhile, Mark Zailon, a third-year student of B.S. in Customs Administration and talents head of Silip@Lente, shared that he was happy to be part of the celebration as he was able to express his passion for dancing.
“Ang kinabibilangan kong organization ay naimbitahan upang mag tanghal ng isang sayaw para sa intermission number ng AdU SOAR; Ikinagagalak ko na makapag bahagi ng aking talento sa university,” he said.

Despite weeks of HyFlex setup, Brant Alipio of MM 201 sees the event as new to him, but it did not stop him from taking documentation until the event's last day.
"It feels new to me as it was my first time encountering events such as the AdU-SOAR. There are a lot of remarkable experiences I might share during the AdU-SOAR, but the most special one would be the media documentation I was part of," he said.
