The Adamson University Student Government (AUSG) held its State of the Government Address (SOGA) via Facebook live that intends to discuss its future agendas for the improvement of the entire student body, on February 18.
AUSG President Jason Alejandro P. Marfori led the presentation of the plans and accomplishments of the AUSG.
He tackled how the AUSG will maintain an open communication for the community and their plea to the administration for face-to-face classes.
Marfori also looked back on the previous requests made by the AUSG namely the mental health break and the appeal to fix the synchronous and asynchronous class system.
Furthermore, he also mentioned the events they organized for the whole community and partnerships with outside organizations and their future event plans which includes the E-sports tournament and Zumba competition.
Jan Nelin Navallasca, the AUSG adviser for the A.Y. 2022, delivered his opening remarks where he tackled the coming election, spreading misinformation, and how confident he is with the performance of AUSG.
"This exercise of the right of suffrage is important decision making and a sacred duty to our country because the leaders we will choose will play a crucial role." Navallasca said.
As the election season approaches, Navallasca reminded everyone to be vigilant particularly in social media.
"You will expect to be overwhelmed with a lot of information and campaign propagandas in various media, especially the social media platforms. Exercise critical thinking in order not to be a victim of fake news or misinformation," he said.
He also mentioned that he is 'confident and happy' because the AUSG, together with the Registered Student Organizations’ (RSO) plans are aligned with the University's mission, vision, and core values.
Meanwhile, Atty. Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo, the current Vice President of the Philippines was one of the guest speakers who delivered her message through a recorded video.
Robredo's speech covers youth empowerment, various social issues, and standing up for the truth.
"We need more young people to be engaged, given pathways to contribute and empower. Your generation will do so much more than help us meet the needs of the present, you will build a better future." She added.
As false news and lies are to be easily circulated online, Robredo reminds everyone to always stand up for the truth.
"Continue to have meaningful discussions online, stand up for the truth, every effort counts, there is no such thing as a step too small," she said.
