AdU to hold full face-to-face classes in upcoming semester

Adamson University will hold full face-to-face classes for the second semester of A.Y. 2022-2023, a memorandum released by the Office of the President and signed by Fr. Marcelo V. Manimitim on December 13, bared.

The memorandum covers all colleges, the Basic Education Department, undergraduate programs, and the Juris Doctor program that are to expect “100% in-person classes and internship/OJT exposures.”

However, an exemption to the graduate school was implied, as its units were attached to different colleges and may adapt to different learning modalities.

Even so, respective deans from different graduate school programs reiterated that they must ensure that the required in-person contact hours are to be duly satisfied by the students prior to their graduation.

Furthermore, the memo stated that students who are enrolled in thesis or dissertation writing are required to be present on campus to work on their papers with their respective advisers.

In an interview, communication students shared their mixed reactions regarding the said announcement.

Adrian Espino, a second-year communication student, said he grew more accustomed to being in online classes.

“Pag online kasi, nasa bahay lang ako at mas naa-asikaso ko yung mga backlogs ko, paglilinis, and everything— unlike pag nasa school ako kailangan ko mas mag-adjust para magawa ko yung mga tasks ko on time,” he said.

(English translation: If it’s online, I’m just at home, and I can be more productive doing my backlogs, household cleaning, and everything— unlike if I’m at school, I need to adjust more thoroughly just to do my tasks on time.)

Aljun Mendoza, a fourth-year communication student, said that the upcoming modality would be more beneficial, especially with the guidelines implied for their Thesis compliance.

“Mas okay sa akin na umattend ng class sa loob ng campus compared to online at ngayon na may thesis na kami; mas madali sa amin mag comply sa advisers namin and makipag meet with my groupmates,” he shared.

(English translation: It’s better for me to attend classes inside the campus as compared to online, especially now we have Thesis; It’d be easier for us to comply with our advisers and meet up with my groupmates.)

Mendoza also wished for a better internet connection alongside the upcoming full in-person implementation.

“Sana lang mabilis ang internet connection ng Adamson since mas dadami ang gagamit niyan and need talaga namin yan while ginagawa namin yung paper,” he hoped.

(English translation: I just hope Adamson’s internet connection would be faster since there’d be a lot of who’ll use it, and we really do need it for making our paper.)

Princess Gozos, from second-year communication, is curious to see how she will handle her life as a working student.

“I’m a working student so dito ko na malalaman kung gaano kahirap pagsabayin ang academics and work.

(English Translation: I’m a working student, so this is where I’ll be finding out how hard it is to balance my academics and work.)

On the other hand, Gozos feels invigorated and open to the coming changes.

But at the end of the day, nae-excite pa rin ako pumasok— it feels like home and nakakawala ng pagod especially pag kasama mo na yung mga classmates & friends mo,” she said.

(English translation: But at the end of the day, I still feel excited to go to school— it feels like home, and it saps out my tiredness, especially if you’re with my classmates and friends.)

Beverly Pedragoza, a fourth-year communication student, thought that full-blast face-to-face could only be for some.

“If I were asked, I would rather prefer the HyFlex Modality last semester. Just only give emphasis to the departments or colleges that require face-to-face classes. Because I think other classes or year level can stick or somehow survive online meetings,” she said.

Enclosing the memo, it added that the university might revert to HyFlex Learning anytime during the second semester if any situation arises that calls for it.
