Adamson University (AdU) celebrated its 89th anniversary through a three-day online event from March 11 to 13 spearheaded by this year’s host department, College of Education and Liberal Arts (CELA).
The celebration showed how the university became “an important part of Adamsonian’s daily lives,” Creative Communicators Society of AdU (CREACOMMS) President Jenica Villanueva said in an interview.
“AdU is not just a workplace or a second home to alumni and employees,” she said.
She added that the event title “AdUcation Redefined” depicted how the university thrived even during the pandemic.
“I am also proud about the approved theme for the 89th year of AdU because it speaks about how the University thrives amid the many changes that occurred due to the COVID-19,” she stated.
According to Villanueva, this year’s celebration differed from the usual face-to-face setting in the past years.
“The very difference is the physical gathering since most of the activities for the annual celebration of the Founding Anniversary is characterized by activities where Adamsonians assemble to enjoy showcasing of talents, competitions among colleges/offices, and eating together as families,” she said.
Despite this, they pushed through with the event even when it had to be conducted online.
“The Founding Anniversary is an annual week-long celebration. This year, however, it commenced only for three days…Nevertheless, we tried to fill in these activities with ones that can still bring the same vibe despite being conducted online,” Villanueva added.
The committee experienced some difficulties during the preparation and execution of the event due to the online setting, according to Villanueva.
“Technical aspect is always a challenge in conducting online events, it's unpredictable yet even small errors can affect greatly the execution pre- and during the event…In addition to this, another challenge is the limited time to prepare considering the activities were held after the prelim week,” she said.
CREACOMMS Vice President for Internal Affairs Hannah Disalongan added that not being able to meet with other committee members has been a challenge in the preparations.
“Another challenge is the fact that we, the committee, are apart from one another. Of course, holding a meeting in person strikes [differently] than holding a meeting virtually. I think it’s a challenge because of the unstable signal and internet,” she said.
Students, employees, and alumni of Adamson University participated in various mini events that CELA organized.
“We have administered a complete variety of events from talent [contests] like Spoken Poetry and Song Writing Contest, fun and games such as the Adamson Bingo, and of course, a contest where Adamsonians can reminisce their memories in Adamson entitled as the Best Memory Challenge,” she added.
Disalongan also expressed relief that the events were held successfully with no delays.
The university also recognized its outstanding employees, staff and faculty in its 37th Institutional Awards and Recognition Ceremonies on the 2nd day of its celebration, March 12.
