The Department of Communication of Adamson University made a stand in saving Mother Earth as they commenced this year's COMM Day with the theme “#COMMENCECHANGE” in celebration of 11 years as a stand-alone program, held via Zoom on May 30.

Along with the Creative Communicators Society of Adamson University (CREACOMMS), the webinar's main objective was to advocate for the environment, but the tight schedule made things challenging.

"We organized everything during the finals period, and everyone was really busy. It seemed like it was impossible [to] push through with the webinar. Yet, we did it," Nitz Tan, President of CREACOMMS, said.

Nevertheless, it was still a fun event, according to Tan, as the mark of the end of the semester.

"We decided to go with a lighter event so that we'll proceed with lesser tasks, but overall, it was fun and a good event to celebrate before the end of our administration,"

Meanwhile, the Communication students did not hesitate to join the webinar for them to refresh, advocate, and learn about the environment.

According to Jehu Adolfo of AMC 101, this year's COMM Day centered on taking care of the environment that communication students must advocate.

"With the current news that scientists have set the deadline for us to reduce the earth's temperature by 2030, this event is worth attending to know how we, communication students, can contribute to aiding our planet," he said.

Princess Gozos from AMC 101 also expressed that she had a great time during the event.

"The flow was excellent, and the hosts and facilitators were extremely hands-on. It was a fun experience because I got to know all of the COMM major students," she said

Sabina Mendoza from AMC 201 said she was interested in joining because it “concerns the environmental issues that we need to be aware of.”

"My favorite part of the webinar is where they do the "bring me" game with a twist. It's memorable because I am amazed by my fellow Klasmeyts on how they reuse and recycle," she said.

Kwame Penascoza from AMC 202 said he learned a bunch of trivia that reminded him of his responsibility towards the environment during the event.

“I like that the event emphasized our abilities to change for a more sustainable lifestyle. From now on, I will live by these principles to always practice eco-friendly ways to save Mother Earth,” he said

Penascoza had overall fun during the event, yet he thought it would have been a better experience “if there was a portion for a talk.”.

Furthermore, Irish Zia Apolinario from AMC 401 shared her learnings of understanding the communication aspect to save mother earth during the event.

“I learned to take action and use the communication aspect to influence others in preserving the environment,” she said

Meanwhile, Pao Binasbas from AMC 401 exclaims that he joined the webinar to see his friends and other communication students as he won most of the games from the event.

“Pero syempre while I am winning [the games] sabi ko, last event ko na ito as 4th year student so talagang need ipakita na I really enjoyed the event,” he said

(But of course, while I am winning [the games], I said, this is my last event as a 4th-year student, so I really need to show that I really enjoyed the event)

During the event, there were many stimulating and challenging activities that the students enjoyed the most.

Mendoza said the event was beneficial and a great way to unwind after a difficult semester.

“I think I enjoyed yet I still gained a lot of knowledge and information through that webinar,” she said

Moreover, Adolfo sees the event as a tribute to Fourth-year communications students.

"I also get to visualize how much fun and challenging the adventure we are going to face in the future," he said.

Nevertheless, Binasbas shared that it served as an eye-opener because he got to know other kids the same way in his course.

"I learned how to take care of our environment. That was our event last week as Special Topics pero about naman sa Church and the Environment," he added.
