CreaCommS “greenducates” with environmental seminar

The Creative Communicators Society (CreaCommS), in collaboration with the Academic Scholars Alliance-Adamson University (ASA-ADU), held its environmental seminar, March 7 at the Computer Science AVR.

Titled “MINIMUS: Living Life with Benefits,”the event focused on what it truly meant to be not just a minimalist, but also an environmentalist.

Guest speaker and GREENducator Ms. Beneah Gineth “BG” C. Gorospe from DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau touched on the important role of the youth in saving the environment and uplifting it from its current state. As a “greenducator,”she aimed to motivate the participants to commit themselves to changing the way they live and do whatever they can to cut down on their carbon footprint.

Despite the many tips and advice she shared, Ms. Beneah reminded her audience that they are already “in the process of making a change.”

“You being here starts it all— it starts with you,” she said before formally concluding her talk.

After the talk, the participants were grouped and tasked to come up with an innovative product within 45 minutes with only a paper bag containing recycled sheets of paper, barbecue sticks, and a glue stick.

Afterwards, the participants presented these products at the AVR Room and among them were face masks and stationery organizers.

Roxanne Araracap, Environmental Director of CreaCommS, shared that she first came up with the concept of MINIMUS “to help people realize that single-plastic use should be avoided.”

“I also asked myself how I can present this event to young people like me in a way that will get them involved and actually want to participate. I wanted the youth of today to train themselves to start living an environmentally minimalist life,” she added.

Following the success of the organization’s previous event titled “COMMPLETE FEELS: Inspiring Young Dreamers," MINIMUS was CreaCommS’ final event for this semester.
