Ghost stories that dwell and persist in Adamson University

Updated: Jul 22, 2021

It is very common for universities and colleges in the Philippines to be plagued by incidents of the past as well as by the lingering ghosts of those involved in the school's history. Each school is remarkable on their own with their unique past and rich beginnings. But as they say, "with a rich, old history comes talk of spooky legends, ghost stories, and horrific tales that point to the paranormal". Adamson University boasts outstanding students and state-of-the-art facilities, but it also has spooky and unholy story that will keep you up all night long.

With that being said, here are some recounts of a number of spooky stories that happened around the university.

The Ozanam (OZ) Chemistry Lab is considered to be the largest chemistry laboratory in South East Asia, but little do Adamsonians know that there are enough stories to fill the records with creepy stories concerning the lab. A campus custodian named Mariseth Consorte reflects on her creepy experience while tending to the laboratory on the 4th floor. According to Consorte, while cleaning the boys’ restroom alone, she heard and felt as if someone was hissing at her, something that was unusual seeing as she was on the last hour of her shift at night, alone. Thinking that it may just be her workmates playing a prank on her, she took a look around only to find no one there.

Aeron Pantig, a 2nd year communication student who is a member of The Adamson Chronicle shares his story about his chilling experience on their publication’s headquarters at the Francis Regis Clet (FRC) building. He recalls that it was six in the morning when he stayed alone at their headquarters to finish his homework when he heard the screeching noises of a chair moving out of place. Thinking that it may just be a random incidence, he ignores it only to witness a chair actually move out of place. Aeron also recalls knocks and calls coming from the outside of their headquarter’s door when they would stay up until the wee hours of the night, as if something was warmly reminding them to go home and leave.

Communications students at the university have their own urban legend as well. There have been many reports of ghostly apparitions and sightings in their commonly used facilities such as the Falcon Radio Station and the Media Center. Noemy Eclarin, also a 2nd year communication student, shares her friend's experience while practicing in the Media Center.

Noemy recalls her friend going to the bathroom right beside the center alone, and coming out spooked to her core. “Sobrang namumutla siya talaga tapos hindi siya makapagsalita,” Eclarin described. She tells Noemy that while inside a bathroom cubicle, doing her business, she felt a big gush of wind followed by a loud whisper directed at her. She described it as angry and firm, as if something was angered about someone being there, and wants them to leave immediately.

The Falcon Radio Station (FRS) serves as the university’s official radio station. DJs or Klasmeyts, as they call it, make it a hub for music and entertainment. On the other hand, it is also the home of terrifying paranormal stories witnessed and accounted for by Communication students.

A 2nd year communication student, Cedric Ventanilla, shares his experience while serving his work immersion at the station back when he was still a senior high school student. He recalls that loud knocks were pounding the bathroom door while he was inside. Brushing it off as a friendly prank, he was surprised to get outside and see his classmates inside the radio booth, with a superior, looking and acting serious.

According to Inno, a student DJ in the station, these stories surrounding their organization centers around many lores, some with real life credibility, giving way for people to get more spooked about it. Nevertheless, Inno remarks that these ghosts are “friendly” and “mean no harm”. He even remarks that the student DJs have grown fond of these entities.

It's tough not to get freaked out, but despite the eerie whistlings heard in the hallways to strange sounds emanating from the walls of the rooms, personal accounts regarding the paranormal become a familiar occurrence in the school. These stories, whether true or not, are sure to raise some cold shivers, a few nostalgic nerves along the way and will fuel an Adamsonian’s nightmares. After all, everyone loves a good ghost story.
