Madayaw Concert 2019: An Explosion of Colors and Echoes of United Voices

After the long week of the Madayaw membership drive, it was time for the welcoming rites Adamson University has prepared for its fresh new students: a welcome concert that would surely remain in each students’ memory.

Despite the morning classes and the tiring walk from the Cardinal Santos (CS) and St. Theresa (ST) grounds to the St. Vincent (SV) grounds, the students showed no signs of weariness as they readily took on the new role of being a true Adamsonian.

Students from different colleges sang their hearts out from the beginning to the end of the concert. The euphoric atmosphere was felt when students jumped high and raised their hands along with the beat.

The Adamson University Student Government (AUSG) spearheaded the event with an ice breaker and an explosion of colors. Klasmeyts swayed through popular songs that were performed by the home-grown bands of the university namely We Prefer Chinitas and To Follow. The organizers invited local bands as well to rock with Adamsonians namely: Better Days who interacted well with the crowd to the point of being charmed; Kurei who performed their original song “Paasa” that had klasmeyts swaying with the mellow beat; and The Vowels They Orbit who performed three original songs including the song "Selos" that again hyped up the crowd.

The intensity of the night leveled up when Gracenote hit the stage with their hits and a cover of Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy". It was then closed with their rock rendition of "When I Dream About You", with which all of the audience sang their hearts out.

The screams echoed when Imago was introduced. Their performance somehow calmed the raging emotions from the last set by Gracenote with mellow beats from covers "Spolarium" and "Cold Summer Nights”, and original songs "Akap" and "Sundo". These songs were well-known that the attendees could not help but sing along and sway through it. The concert ended quite like a roller coaster ride of emotions when Imago sang their swan song "Taralets" that once again turned Adamsonians' calmed hearts to burn with fervor as they jumped and screamed the night away.

The event was sponsored by Red Line Productions, Slurpee, and Oishi. Klasmeyts enjoyed the concert with snacks, drinks and a twister game provided by Oishi and Slurpee in their respective booths. Lucky students had the chance to have a meet-and-greet session with the local bands by buying their merch. The night ended with great fanfare and safety with the help of the student volunteers from Red Cross and the ROTC.

The students left the venue in their sweat-soaked, clad in white-shirt with blue handprint paint, ready and proud to face another day as true blooded Falcons.
