With the theme “A Battle of Wit, Honor and Glory”, the Creative Communicators Society of Adamson University (CreaComms) held its first ‘Game of Comms’ last January 26 at the campus Media Center.
Participants from different year levels competed in a quiz bee regarding Communications and current events for the first two rounds.
The last round included two teams participating in a British Parliamentary style debate, where the ‘Government Team’ composed of Hannah Rania Disalongan, Jillian Mariz Mosquito and Chrizia Paras won as per the judges’ decision.
“Pressured kasi pinagkatiwalaan talaga kami ng mga kaklase namin pero kahit na gano’n, mas nangibabaw pa rin ‘yung positive side na nagtiwala sila sa’min kaya kailangan naming ibigay ‘yung best namin,” (pressured, because our classmates trusted us, but even so, the positive side prevailed that they gave us their trusts so we have to do our best.) Disalongan said in an interview.
The team also expressed relief from their win against the ‘Opposition Team’ composed of Jerome Astrera, Vincent Flores and Michael Frank Cotelo.
“Bukod sa kaba, nakakapressure kasi nga syempre first year pa lang kami ta’s sila mas may experience na sila kaysa sa’min,” (Aside from the tension, we felt pressured because we're only first year students and they are more experienced than us.) said Paras.
The winners received medals, certificates, and a cash prize of 2,000 php, while the runner-up team also received medals, certificates, and a cash prize of 1,000 php.
Francis Jay Acosta, Academic Director of CreaComms, shared their purpose for conducting the event, stating,
“Narealize namin na halos puro seminar ‘yung mga activities namin. So we figured na we should do something more interactive and engaging sa mga fellow Comm students natin.” (We realized that almost all of our activities are seminars. So we figured that we should do something more interactive and engaging for our fellow Comm students.)
He also added that they wanted the participants to socialize with each other in a ‘competitive-yet-still-friendly’ way.
Moreover, Acosta concluded that the activity is hoped to become a tradition in the Communication Department for the coming years.
