Adamson University officials, alumni and patrons led the inauguration of the new two-storey building located at the former Rustia compound at the back of the Marian Center last September 10. Joining in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the building, dubbed as Falcon’s Nest 2 which will house the male athletes of the school, were Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM, Metro Stonerich Corp. Executives Engr. Ibrahim “Bong” Nuño and wife Yasmin, Engr. Maximillian Quintos, Engr. Ferdinand Villanueva, and Mr. Eliseo Aurellado. In his Welcome Remarks, Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM, Director of the Office for Athletics and Recreation, said that the new building is a testament of how the institution actually cares for the athletes. According to him, “if the game [against Ateneo] was our statement to the UAAP, this dormitory is our statement of alagang Adamson as we provide our athletes an accommodation better than the room of the university’s president.”
He expressed appreciation for the generosity of alumni, especially Engr. Nuño and family, the late Engr. Francis Miguel of AIM-Global, as well as Akari Philippines, a major sponsor of some of the school’s sports programs. Engr. Nuño, an alumnus and the President and Managing Director of the construction firm Metro Stonerich, said that he was so elated by the school’s victory against the defending UAAP Champion Ateneo De Manila University and even joked that it was a fitting day to inaugurate this “after winning technically and literally the championship,”. He thanked his partners and colleagues at Metro Stonerich for supporting the project and seeing it through to completion, mentioning in particular Architect Anne Paraon. For his part, the school’s President Fr. Marcelo V. Manimtim, CM said that “what we are inaugurating today is not a momentary support to our players. It is part of what the Adamson community would like to provide our athletes. We would like our athletes not only to perform in their sports but be proud students of Adamson University. You are made scholars by the university because of your playing; we would like you to be scholars because you prepare well for your future by your studies.” He also acknowledged the school’s benefactors for their generous contribution, pointing out to Metro Stonerich which contributed P13 Million out of the P18 Million costs of the building. Fr. William Azul Encelan, CM, Fr. Agustin Advincula, CM, Fr. Aldrin Suan, CM, Fr. Rock Joseph Enriquez, CM, Fr. Andrew Bayal, CM and Fr. Manimtim blessed the building. After the blessing, a marker was unveiled. Fr. Aldrin, however, reminded the occupants to “show your gratitude to our donor by maintaining the immaculate beauty of the place…”.
