Communication Department of Adamson University crowned Aldrich Dabao and Leigh Madamba on its very first
“Ginoo at Binibining Komunikasyon”, held at the Adamson University Theatre last July 7, 2017.
The candidates showcased their formal attires and futuristic getups in relation to their advocacies. After this segment, the top three finalists from the male and female category underwent a Question and Answer (Q&A) portion, made by Mr. Joel Zaporteza, which tackled the different issues that the Philippines is currently facing.
After a nerve-wracking Q&A segment, Aldrich Maru A. Dabao, a 3rd year student and Frances Leigh T. Madamba, a 4th year student managed to claim the crown for being the first winners of “Ginoo at Binibining Komunikasyon 2017”.
Hailing from Bacoor, Cavite, Philippines, 18 years of age, Aldrich Maru A. Dabao fought the odds and became the first ever Ginoong Komunikasyon to ever bag the crown in the men’s category.
“I did not expect to take home the crown since it was my first time joining a pageant. And to tell you honestly, I really did not believe in myself that I can do it.” said Aldrich. He stated that he was just chosen by his block mates to represent their section and asked his friends for tips who also joined several beauty pageants before in preparations for the contest.
He won all the special awards including Best in Formal wear, Futuristic wear, and Advocacy as well. According to him, the main struggle that he had was making the futuristic costume due to the limited time.
Another first timer, a 4th year student, Frances Leigh T. Madamba, managed to win the crown in the women’s category.
“Wala akong experience sa mga ganito. Come to think na ang mga kalaban ko ay mga aspiring models and dean’s listers,” (I have no experience in these kinds of stuff. Come to think of it, my rivals were actually aspiring models and dean’s listers) said Leigh. According to Leigh, her main struggle during the pageant was her “boyish-like personality”, especially when it comes to walking. What’s surprising about her is that she didn’t really know if she actually prepared for the pageant.
The secret to success according to the winners is to believe in one’s self, and believing that you can do it. Both of them also mentioned that without their friends encouraging them, they wouldn’t be able to make it through the finals and win. They really did prove that nothing is impossible as they bagged the title in spite of being a newbie in pageants. They should be an inspiration to all aspiring Communication students who would want to join next year. It proves that nothing is impossible, if we make it possible.
