ASA-AdU requests transparency, postponement of revised scholarship policy

The Academic Scholars Alliance of Adamson University (ASA-AdU) appealed to the Executive Committee of Adamson University (AdU) on August 27 to postpone the implementation of the Revised Policy on Academic Scholarship Program.

In response to the revised policy limiting the number of scholars, the organization sent a letter of appeal to the committee requesting to put off its implementation until the 2nd semester of A.Y. 2021 – 2022.

ASA-AdU likewise requested to have students qualified under the old policy be given a 25% tuition fee discount, should the administration continue to implement the said policy.

The letter also contained the organization’s wish to be enlightened on whether the policy was made in response to the “maximum leniency” the university imposed last semester.

In an interview, ASA-AdU President Feliza Rodriguez expressed her disappointment over the lack of coordination and transparency from the committee’s side.

“We were not informed that the administration is already plotting changes about the scholarship policy, instead, they deem it necessary to inform us that they are done and ready to implement it,” she said.

The letter also revealed that their request for a meeting to clarify why the Office of Student Affairs and Scholarships (OSAS) belatedly informed the organization that the policy will apply to all students of AdU was not entertained.

Moreover, it stated that OSAS failed to coordinate with them on informing the grantees, as the office previously announced that qualified scholars were already emailed regarding their scholarship status last August 13.

On the other hand, Rodriguez still hopes to settle the matter with their efforts to communicate with the concerned offices.

“We are trying to settle things as democratic and civil as we could,” she added.

The university is yet to respond to the said requests.

According to OSAS, the office still does not have the final number on how many academic scholarship grantees there will be for this semester.

However, the number of scholars is expected to drop suppose the revised policy will carry on.
